Description: A momentous occasion in the Champion Version catalogue, ‘Anterne’ contains a new two-track selection of works from Parisian duo Germain Fraïssé and Guillaume Evrard, collectively known as GNG, who layer delicate strands of ambient guitar, one upon another with heavily edited instrumentation and found sounds. For the first track ‘Anterne Partie 1’, Fraïssé and Evrard wander through shimmering guitar arpeggios and cinematic reverse leads, all building up to a beautiful and intensely resonant piece of unhurried and measured post-rock. The melodies here are lavish, deliberate and gorgeous. The subtly panoramic ‘Anterne Partie 2’ comes next with guitars strung tightly together in the most beautiful fashion, while microscopic, crackling gestures lay out a backdrop of spatially enriched static. A truly excellent record. Super.

Description: Part 3 and 4 of the ‘I Always Wanted A Standing Cat’ 7” gathering sees Steve Roden and Stephen Vitiello drawing on their influences, adapting and reacting to one another to create a very expressive style of experimental composition blushing with gorgeous atmospherics and gentle rhythms. The set is made up of four wonderful movements that feel as if they’re on the brink of total collapse. Part 3 includes ‘All The Greens’ and ‘Young Tongue’, two pieces that are languorous, quite unsettling and incredibly beautiful and fragile. Spellbinding work. The introspective and intimate flourishes of ‘Swallow Tails’ open part 4 before the set concludes with the sublime elegance of ‘In Wind Of Chestnut’. An immensely personal group of tracks from this attuned duo. Sleepy, slow shifting, stunning.

Title: Melodrama
Vinyl: Sold Out
Digital: Listen/Buy
Description: Measured, meticulous recordings on this beautiful new work from Machinefabriek. A gentle yet disconcerting 7” featuring two deeply emotive, rigorously focused and intensive compositions. Stunning as usual.
Background: “Champion Version said ‘Up for a new 7” Rutger?’ A question like that is always a nice reminder for something I really like... to focus on a short amount of music. It’s a bit like writing a short story instead of a book. There’s still something of the “album feel” in there; two tracks that are closely related, both part of the same story. But there’s not the issue of having to deal with the arc or dynamics of a complete full length record. In a way, this gives me the freedom to be more explorative and playful, like you could probably hear in my previous Champion Version 7”, ‘Snoepgoed’, and in this new one ‘Melodrama’. These tracks started by recording an online drum machine with a dodgy 4-track, then playing that back through a few effects pedals and looping bits of it. The resulting rhythm is the foundation of ‘Melodrama 1’, on which I started to arrange midi instruments onto, very intuitively. What started as something with a sort of lo-fi Autechre feel, to me anyway, became something completely different. Quite cinematic, and perhaps a bit… melodramatic? Well, I guess sometimes that’s how I like it.” - Rutger Zuydervelt

Title: No Sails
Vinyl: Sold Out
Digital: Listen/Buy
Description: Exploring a more relaxed, ambient and fragile aesthetic, we have the concluding 7” of this Rothko opus which starts with ‘No Sails’, an acoustic rendering into thoughtful and cinematic soundscapes. Submerge and lose yourself to the depths. The final side of this epic journey starts with the shivering whispers of ‘Into Sunlight’ where emotive bass drones create a sense of restraint, simplicity and pure calm. The lingering reverb drenched bass drifts of ‘Step Into Sunset’ settle proceedings perfectly, balanced and allowed to breathe, exquisite in its simplest form, nothing here is hurried, you hear incidents rise and fall gloriously, sounds arrive and slowly dissolve. Heavenly. Just heavenly.
天眼加速器和express“Most of the tracks on ‘No Anchor No Chart No Rudder No Sails’ are my very first attempts at writing my own music. A lot of the other early tracks appeared on ‘A Negative For Francis’ and a couple surfaced on ‘Forty Years To Find A Voice’. The majority of them are on this collection which I originally put out on a few cassette releases and three of which I put out before the band was even formed. At the time I didn’t actually have a name for the band. That came later after I met Crawford Blair. It was my good friend Nick Olofsson who suggested I try and record my own material as I had actually decided to give up trying to join a band. So he said, “Why not do your own thing?”. About 75% of the tracks on this release were recorded at Nick’s flat in Kentish Town onto his Fostex Porta 05 four-track cassette recorder. Without him and his partner, Anet Mook, I doubt the group, and this music, would ever have existed.” - Mark Beazley
Information: Composed between 1997 and 1998, ‘No Anchor No Chart No Rudder No Sails’ was originally released in 2001 by the Burning Shed label as a collection of rare Rothko recordings. Mark Beazley has perfected his ethereal lullabies to create this definitive edition which is remastered and includes five new tracks with repackaged design by Department EH. Unquestionably, the timing of this reissue could hardly be more significant, not only because of Rothko’s forthcoming new album on Trace Recordings but also the recent and sad decision for the band to cease live performance. Essential updates of any versions you may already have in your record collections and quite possibly the finest moment on Champion Version to date, ‘No Anchor No Chart No Rudder No Sails’ is one of the very best and most unique bass driven records of all time. Simply sublime for the entire duration, this is the soundtrack to the most wonderful dream you ever had.

Description: Next up and channelled into a colossal metal chamber, Rothko present ‘No Rudder’, a minimal yet immersive composition, full to erupting with melodic undertones. This is Rothko at the peak of their powers. A fabulous piece. ‘From Ashes’ and ‘Feed Me Those Weird Leaves’ brings us full circle, back exclusively to electric bass experiments. These tracks are awe-inspiring, beyond supreme and into another dimension. As if you’re daydreaming. All encompassing and completely stunning.

Description: The muted, grainy fragments of ‘No Chart’ open the second Rothko 7” in this series. A gorgeous and delicate introduction that evolves into a detuned and suffocating minimalism. And that feeling continues with ‘Shadowless’ with its subdued rhythms and distorted textures. Magnificent work. ‘For Vini’ is incredibly evocative with the softest massed strings sparingly plucked. It blends seamlessly into the granular and lyrical fretless bass of ‘Abstract’, a brooding and deliberately slow movement. The results here are a highlight. Just extraordinary music.

Description: The first 7” in this classic Rothko anthology features the melancholy and moving stretches of ‘No Anchor’ with its fleeting samples expertly weaved between the sparse layers of bass while ‘Extract’ reveals a gentle, hypnotic improvisation that tinkles and disappears before it’s really gotten underway. Astonishing. The simmering ‘Through Corridors’ is next, a faint progression that builds up slight sound statements gradually, eluding grand gestures in favour of something more understated and engaging. All compressed and squashed to destructive imperfection, ‘Spine’ gives a disconcerting ending with gnarly tones and murmurs of vinyl static. A fantastic first instalment.

Description: Stephen Vitiello is back with a sequel of sorts to his incredible ‘Afterglow (Or Abendrot)’ 7” released by Champion Version back in 2017. For ‘A New Glow/Simple Interference’ Vitiello is joined by the supremely talented percussionist, Justin Alexander. The record's opening piece, ‘A New Glow’, settles into a hypnotic repetition, furnishing a harmonically deep shimmer under which Alexander puts together some beautifully crisp drum work. The second side contains ‘Simple Interference’, a slow-burning movement where Vitiello’s distant yet pivotal electronics and hushed experiments are expertly blended with Alexander’s perfectly timed, tumbling and understated drum tempos. Excellent, tightly focused instrumentals and expansive atmospherics.

Description: Steve Roden and Stephen Vitiello return to Champion Version with this epic ambient drone suite. The first track, ‘Invisible Helpers’, is a peaceful tape-loop like meditation featuring stunning swirls and textures. Real understated work. The first 7” finishes with the gorgeous ‘Your Trees, Follow’, a piece you’re longing to continue endlessly and could easily be expanded on with its spectacular shimmering atmospheres. The music on ‘In Dawns With Moon’ evokes the title perfectly as waves of refined sound experiments gradually unravel with sparsely plucked guitar textures that meld beneath crunchy billowing echoes. This track then segues into ‘Surrounded By Mountains’, an introverted collection of loops with a layering of scant notes that build and build upon each other before slowly fading away into the heavens. Title: Laptev’s Dance
Vinyl: Sold Out

天眼加速器appThe debut by underground percussionist Matt Pittori, under his My Winter Defence guise, ‘Laptev's Dance’ sees Matt emerging from beneath the wreckage of Minus Pilots to investigate a darker, more electronic sonic theme. During a recent concert in his home city of London, Matt revealed a confident foray into quiet, fragile and harmonic material while fusing dynamic and percussive elements. Sharing the title of the overall release is opener, ‘Laptev’s Dance’; it’s dense, prickly atmospherics are dark with treated effects and fleeting sections of melody rising up throughout. Bold contemplations are shrouded in hazy analogue synth washes, decaying beats and spectral reverbs. Very good. ‘Punctured Northern Skies’ is next and features panoramic pulse elements with deep, dark bass drones. It’s filled with epic, wistful tones, otherworldly and elaborate experiments of disconnected fragments and textures. Two sublime soundtrack pieces and a real work of art, you know what must be done.

On ‘Le Néant’, Anne-Sophie reveals a marvellous collection of playful textures using clavinet, organs, lead synth, guitar, electric bass and flute. ‘Le Néant I’ offers a gentle clarity, permitting a vast amount of melodically engaged charm. ‘Le Néant II‘ is grandiose and imposing with harmonically entwined activity, a more effervescent composition. 天行免费版apkAn amazing new 7” from Run Logan Run’s Andrew Neil Hayes. Taking what seems like a sparse set of elements, Hayes’ approach revolves around a trio of components which comprise of saxophone, moog synthesizer and a reverb pedal. Hayes presents the diminished sketches of ‘Metal/Wood’ in which a protracted drone of coiling clicks, whispers and analogue sounds combine to present complex impressions that expand well beyond the individual elements. Crumbling experiments slowly come to life, ‘Metal/Wood’ is a must have.

天眼加速器官网下载A heavy and intense mantra about Mediterranean profane ritualism. Blending obsessive rhythms and haunting percussion, tribal dance, heavy kicks, lo-fi buzzing, spoken word hypnosis, primordial energy and evocative vocals with thick drones, field recordings, pulsing feedback and massively distorted guitars, ‘Madrighe’ is the first work in a series dedicated to ancient themes from Sardinia Island, IlSantoBevitore’s native home.
Background: Continuing his research delving into ethnomusicological territories, ‘Madrighe’ is dedicated to ‘Berbos’, ancestral Sardinian prayers. Barbos are words, they are not normal words but rather magic formulas which have the power to cure people from evil as well as to cause it. Each track intends to recreate those fascinating pagan practices, translating them into modern musical codes. Madrighe is an ancient word which in Sardinian language means Matrice (Matrix). Four tracks linked together under the same Madrighe of spiritualism and ritualism of the mysterious Sardinia Island. A sense of archaism within a post-modern flavour embraces the entire record. Raw, yet sophisticated, Madrighe delves into the past and present at the same time. The most collaborative work so far, featuring London-based producer NoMoreWillRoam, multi-instrumentalist Davide Chessa on guitar feedback and screaming, vocal samples from Lani Rocillo and synths, hardware, percussions, tapes and field recordings by IlSantoBevitore.
